Trick Dog

Trick Dog rewrites its menu twice a year and turns the thing into an object — a Pantone book, a zine, a Chinese takeout menu. It is easy to read this as gimmick and easy to be wrong about that. Underneath the design exercise is one of the most disciplined bars in the country: the dilution is measured, the citrus is same-day, and the ice is cut for the glass it's going in.

Order whatever is numbered highest on the current menu — that's usually where the bar is arguing with itself — and if you're coming off a burrito from El Farolito four blocks down, ask for a mezcal Negroni instead. It isn't printed. They'll make it, and it's the correct end to that particular evening.
